Tarnow Digital Library (TDL) was created in 2010 as the project of the Julius Slovacki Municipal Public Library in Tarnow, co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of  “Digital Resources. Priority 1: Digitisation of library materials”.

The main purpose of the project is a long-term preservation, conservation, archiving and promotion of national and local cultural heritage by the digitisation and making regional history collection available for users via Internet, including old prints and periodicals, books and ephemeral prints.

The Municipal Public Library in Tarnow possesses a valuable collection of Polish and foreign old prints from 16th to 18th centuries. There is also an interesting group of manuscripts and miscellany from 19th and 20th centuries with the unique correspondence (e.g. of Zygmunt Krasiński with Izabela Sanguszko from 1846-1851, letters of generals of the November Uprising of 1830-31 – Józef Chłopicki, Jan Skrzynecki), 18th and 19th centuries cartography, musical prints of 18th -  20th centuries, the Sanguszkos’ genealogical tables from 19th and 19th centuries, 19th century books (from libraries formerly belonging to the manors) and regional collections of a great interest.

The collections are accessible (in the reading-rooms) for students, researchers and academic teachers, journalists, secondary school students and amateurs of the history of Tarnów and the region. The Municipal Public Library in Tarnów wishes to create the possibility of free access to its historical and regional resources in digital form of TDL for a general public.

All kind of cultural and educational institutions, information centres as well as private persons interested in sharing their resources on the Internet can become involved in the project.
